"Whether exploring fragile tones, electronic feedback, or the physical limits of his instruments, Fusi plays with a rare combination of precision and imagination. Each performance feels like a discovery — a meeting point between technique, curiosity, and sound itself."
Ettore Garzia, Percorsi Musicali
Proximity, Distance is the collaboration of two fascinating musicians: composer and electronic music performer Patricia Alessandrini and New Music violinist and researcher Marco Fusi. Their project is a multifaceted exploration of feedback – that difficult to control acoustic phenomenon happening in the interaction between a sound source, a microphone, and a speaker, which feeds back again into the microphone, thus starting the wild sonorous ride that gives the effect its name. Fusi – who doubles on the viola d'amore on the album – and Alessandrini worked together for several years, experimenting in different stages before finally recording their explorations at Stanford University's CCRMA in the spring of 2024.
